Job Description
At Southwark Council, we are not just restructuring our Libraries and Heritage services, we are transforming them. The council is investing in an ongoing modernisation programme, opening new libraries and completing major refurbishments. We are improving access to the service for the whole community. All of our libraries have free internet, an excellent range of stock and weekly programmes of activities and events.
We are refocusing the Heritage service in preparation for its move into the rebuilt Walworth Town Hall. This will provide new accommodation for the Cuming Museum, the Heritage collections, the Registrars service, a new library and civic space all under one roof.
The transformation of Libraries and Heritage is intended to ensure that even more people can benefit from the council’s Fairer Future for All policy. We are looking for people with creativity, vision, experience and commitment and who will be able to play a part in transforming our services to meet the needs of our diverse and rapidly changing community.
Digital Content Officer

As part of the ongoing modernisation of the Libraries and Heritage service, we are looking for an experienced and creative person to establish and develop our digital presence. You will be an excellent communicator, able to develop new and innovative content and a positive profile on social media. Our key aim is to bring our services and unique collections to the widest possible audience including Southwark’s own very diverse community.
  • You will be responsible for all stages of designing, writing and publishing content using all digital channels.
  • You will have an in depth knowledge of current best practice and emerging trends including the role of digital services in local government.
  • You will develop access to our heritage collections using museum and archive collection management systems and industry standard applications.
  • You will work with partner organisations to coordinate online information for Libraries and Heritage to promote specific events that showcase our collections.
  • You will be highly proficient in the use of IT with experience of working in digital media and in designing and creating content on the web.
  • You will have managed complex projects and have delivered them on time and within an agreed budget.
