Librarian/Archivist
Solo librarian and archivist for collection of about 3000 books and periodicals and a large and growing archive of bookbinding and book trade ephemera (photographs, 18th – 20th century bookbinding ephemera, binders’ tickets, bookbinding material samples, machinery manuals, more). The collections are mostly uncataloged; the majority is English language material, with some French, German, Russian, other languages. Current operations involve MARC21 cataloging and copy cataloging with OCLC Connexion Client and Koha, and processing collections in our archive using ArchivesSpace.
Librarian will manage reading room for researchers and visitors using the non-circulating collection. Other responsibilities: contributing content to museum blog/newsletter highlighting items from collections and leading some tours and talks. Should feel comfortable talking with visitors about work on various projects as part of the archives processing will be downstairs on the visitors floor.  Librarian will work with Associate Director on projects related to exhibitions and digitization of collection.
Experience desired:
  • MLIS (at least 2 years experience cataloging in a library)
  • MARC21 cataloging
  • Original and copy cataloging experience using OCLC Connexion and Koha: monographs, serials.
  • Familiarity with archival standards and best practices, EAD, DACS.
  • Archive to be cataloged using ArchivesSpace with regular updates to Online Archives of California (OAC)
  • Collection development and accessions.
  • Access policy and practices.
  • Training and supervising volunteers/interns desirable.
